Rihanna's third-annual Diamond Ball was a celebrity-filled spectacle and so much more

Image: Kevin Mazur/Getty Images for Clara Lionel Foundation It was a wonderful night. Jay-Z mingled with fellow tuxedo-clad guests. Beyoncé delicately dabbed her face with the finest of cloth napkins. Leonardo DiCaprio looked off in the distance as someone conversed with him. Kendrick Lamar handed me a microphone (yes, you read that right) and Cardi B's four assistants gathered her dress to help the "Bodak Yellow" queen make her way through the ballroom full of tables at Rihanna’s third annual Diamond Ball. In the middle of it all sat a 29-year-old Barbados born woman who needs no introduction, especially following the week she’s had launching an impressively successful (and inclusive) makeup launch and showing her Fenty Puma Spring 2018 collection during New York Fashion Week.  With all that is going on in her life, it’s easy to forget that the Robyn Rihanna Fenty does more than set trends, release party […] Read more »

Thinking inside the box: how cask wine became cool again

Cask wine, box wine, goon bag whatever you call it, wine in a box has a bad reputation. But wine enthusiasts are changing all that Cask wine? I havent drunk that since I was in my 20s. So said a middle-aged customer, somewhat sniffily, to me upon being presented with a carafe of wine that had been freshly decanted from a three-litre bag-in-box cask. But the wine inside that cask a fresh and light blend of sangiovese, colorino and canaiolo from Tuscan producer Casale, made from organic grapes and with natural yeast was a far cry from the cask wines that customer would have quaffed decades ago. The natural wine movement an umbrella term for the popularity of wines made from organic or biodynamic grapes, vinified with naturally occurring wild yeasts, unfiltered or unfined, and made with minimal additives or other trickery has already had a profound impact on how […] Read more »

Image: REX/Shutterstock Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman is serving as inspo for the latest internet fashion. SEE ALSO: Kindergarteners are inspired by 'Wonder Woman' and it's adorable Anyone who's seen the Wonder Woman movie (or even the trailer) remembers that iconic scene where Wonder Woman oh-so cooly and collectively pulls an entire SWORD from the back of her stylish dress. Of course she just acts like it's no big deal, because she's Wonder Woman and all.   Now, women online are copying the look, and tagging it #WWGotYourBack. They're making their own bold fashion statement by pulling many types of swords from many types of dresses. And they all have one thing in common: they all look great. #WWgotyourback #godkillerchallenge #makeantiopeproud pic.twitter.com/OJGcfcAO6g Alicia (@StJoan) June 11, 2017 Also, I attempted the #wwgotyourback challenge even though I only have a wooden katana. #sword #WonderWoman pic.twitter.com/1SVQkjsTPg Tab (@TabulaRasaCos) June 9, 2017 Have dress...have […] Read more »

Peter Lindbergh's best photograph: the birth of the supermodels

They were a revolution fresh, fun, outspoken, poking at you, making edgy jokes, getting involved. Wow! Liz Tilberis, the editor of British Vogue, asked me to do a shoot. You have to do the January 1990 cover, she said. Youre the one. She wanted something that would preview the decade to come. My reaction was: Oh my God, who could that be? You cant hang the next decade on one face. It wont work. But I knew what would. This was the result. People always say this shot, this cover, was the birth of the supermodels, but thats not entirely true. Two years before, I shot what were really the first of such pics the white shirt shoots. But that was for American Vogue. At that time, I didnt much like American Vogue. I found the women they were photographing so uninspiring. I preferred girls at art school. They wore […] Read more »

There have been plenty of eyebrow and makeup trends, bizarre fabric choices, and unexpected collaborations that have blown us away with how unnecessary they are. Male Rompers aka the RompHim Image: kickstarter SEE ALSO: Aussie mag shoots iconic Instagrammer with an iPhone for its cover Honestly, the RompHim isn't that bad. Why Despacito is the perfect summer song in Trump's America | John Paul Brammer

Latino culture is being embraced despite the vitriol in our political landscape. The success of the song is a reminder that America is more diverse than ever Walk down the streets, and it can feel like the same song is blasting out of every sound system: Despacito. The catchy new reggaeton-pop mega hit from the Puerto Rican artists Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee is set to be one of the big hits of the summer. It is also the first song primarily in Spanish to top the Billboard Hot 100 since Macarena in 1996. Having a Spanish song top the charts is no small thing for Latinos. I remember the first time I was disciplined for speaking Spanish was my senior year in high school. I was speaking with a friend of mine. Imperfectly, I might add, as I was still learning the language. My teacher approached us and said […] Read more »

Mother Pence introduces 20,000 bees to D.C. because that's what that place needs

Image: chip somodevilla/Getty Images She's been quiet for a while, but we're proud to report: Karen Pence is officially back in the game. The vice president's wife, who he calls "Mother" in typical conservative Oedipal fashion, just installed anywhere from 15,000 20,000 bees at the Vice President residence. The second lady is responding to the rapid and alarming drop in the global bee population. Karen Pence believes in science! SEE ALSO: What's Mike Pence thinking about in this photo? Like pretty much everything good in the Trump administration, Karen appears to have copied her idea from Michelle Obama. In 2009, Michelle helped to introduce over 35,000 bees to the White House. It's unclear how many bees the Vice President residence supports at this time or why they couldn't have picked a far cuter endangered species to support, like pandas. .@SecondLady's new beehive at VP residence highlights need for increase in […] Read more »
